Augmentin 375mg – Amoxicillin & Clavulanic Acid Tablets
WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?
Augmentin 375mg is a prescription antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including sinusitis, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections (UTIs), skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Augmentin combines Amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. While Amoxicillin kills bacteria, Clavulanic Acid blocks enzymes that resist antibiotics, making the treatment more effective against resistant strains.
HOW TO USE?
Take one Augmentin 375mg tablet every 8 hours or as directed by your physician. Always take with food to improve absorption and minimize stomach upset. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
SIDE EFFECTS
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, skin rash, abdominal discomfort
Less common: Vomiting, oral or vaginal yeast infections
Serious (rare): Liver dysfunction, allergic reactions, severe diarrhea (C. difficile)
Report persistent or severe symptoms to your doctor.
WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses at once.
PRECAUTIONS
-
Inform your doctor if you have allergies to penicillin, liver problems, or kidney disease
-
Long-term use may cause secondary infections or antibiotic resistance
-
Caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal issues
WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?
Seek immediate help if you experience:
-
Yellowing of the skin/eyes (jaundice)
-
Severe rash, itching, or swelling
-
Persistent diarrhea or abdominal pain
CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?
Tell your doctor if you’re taking:

Methotrexate, allopurinol, or probenecid
