WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?

Famcimac 250mg is an antiviral agent, prescribed for herpes zoster(shingles). It is also used to treat recurring cold sores and to treat or suppress recurring genital herpes. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Famciclovir works to harm the virus and fight the infection.

HOW TO USE?

The dose and length of treatment depends on patients condition. The recommended dose range is 125mg to 1.5gmday in divided doses. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Diarrhea. Feeling tired or weak. Belly pain.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug.

PRECAUTIONS:

If you have an allergy to famciclovir or any other part of this drug. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had including telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?

Alert your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines: - heart medicines such as digoxin. - medicines for reducing stomach acid such as cimetidine. - probenecid. - theophylline (for asthma). - diuretics (water pills used to remove excess water). Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

FOOD RESTRICTIONS:

Avoid Alcohol.

HOW TO STORE:

Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container, keep away from children.

PREGNANCY CATEGORY:

Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
