Ceftin 500mg (Generic)

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?

Ceftin 500mg (Generic) is a semi synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for different types of infections such as lung, ear, throat, urinary tract and skin.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Cefuroxime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

HOW TO USE?

Adult- Po- The recommended dose range is 125mg to 3gmsday, in divided doses. IVIM- Surgical prophylaxis- 1.5 g IV per-op, then 750 mg IM 8 hourly for up to 24-48 hours. It comes as a tablet, syrup and suspension to take by mouth, with food. It also comes as solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or large muscle.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Upset stomach or throwing up. Diarrhea. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug.

PRECAUTIONS :

Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (rash, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes) to similar antibiotics such as cefalexin, cefaclor, cefixime, ceftibuten or any other cephalosporin antibiotics. Alert your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, for example, amoxicillin, ampicillin and cloxacillin. Penicillins are related to cephalosporins and if you are allergic to one, you may be allergic to the other too.

WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Diarrhea, even after drug is stopped. Any bruising or bleeding. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?

Do not take Cefuroxime together with antacids because antacids could reduce the effectiveness of the antibiotic. Antacids are not likely to relieve the stomach discomfort that Cefuroxime may cause. If you must take antacids, take between meals at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after you have taken Cefuroxime. Alert your doctor if you are taking warfarin or probenecid.

FOOD RESTRICTIONS:

Avoid Alcohol.

HOW TO STORE:

Store the tablets between 15° and 30°C. Injection: Store it in refrigerator (between 2° and 30°C). Normally handled and stored by healthcare providers.

PREGNANCY CATEGORY:

Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
