WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?
Acivir DT 800mg is used to treat viral infections such as herpes simplex (oral & genital herpes), chickenpox (varicella), and shingles (herpes zoster). It may also help prevent recurrent outbreaks in immunocompromised patients.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Acivir DT contains Acyclovir, an antiviral that works by stopping the virus from multiplying. It blocks viral DNA synthesis, helping your immune system control the infection.
HOW TO USE?
Dissolve the dispersible tablet in a small amount of water or take it as directed by your doctor, usually 2–5 times daily. Complete the full course, even if symptoms improve early.
SIDE EFFECTS
Common: Nausea, headache, diarrhea, fatigue
Rare: Dizziness, rash, abdominal pain, or kidney issues
Contact your doctor if you notice any unusual or severe side effects.
WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered. If it’s nearly time for the next dose, skip it. Do not double dose.

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?
Inform your doctor if you are taking:
-
Probenecid
-
Other antivirals

Drugs affecting kidney function (e.g., cyclosporine)
Combining them may increase side effect risks.
