Urifast 100mg

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?

Urifast 100mg is an antibiotic, prescribed for urinary tract infections.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Nitrofurantoin fights bacteria in the body.

HOW TO USE?

It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with food. Adult- PO- The recommended dose is 50-100 mg 4 timesday for 7 days. Dual-release preparation: 100 mg twice daily.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Change in color of urine to black, brown, or yellow. Harm to the lungs may rarely happen.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?

Skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

PRECAUTIONS:

Do not give this drug to an infant younger than 1 month of age, an infant with a fever and a bladder infection, or a young child who has kidney problems. If you have an allergy to nitrofurantoin or any other part of this drug. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had including telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have kidney disease. If this drug caused liver problems before. If you are more than 38 weeks pregnant.

WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?

 If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Chest pain or pressure. Numbness or tingling in your hands or feet. Trouble breathing. Cough that does not go away. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Diarrhea, even after drug is stopped. Yellow skin or eyes. Not able to eat. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash.

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. Taking them together can cause bad side effects. Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

FOOD RESTRICTIONS:

Avoid Alcohol.

HOW TO STORE:

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.  Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.

PREGNANCY CATEGORY:

Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
