Simvotin 5mg – Simvastatin Tablets

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?

Simvotin 5mg is used to lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It helps reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases by preventing the buildup of plaque in blood vessels.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simvotin contains Simvastatin, a medication from the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) class. It works by blocking an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver, thereby reducing LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides, while increasing HDL (good cholesterol).

HOW TO USE?

  • Take Simvotin 5mg once daily, preferably in the evening or as prescribed by your doctor.

  • It can be taken with or without food.

  • Follow a low-cholesterol diet and maintain regular exercise for best results.

  • Do not stop the medication without consulting your doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS

Common: Headache, nausea, stomach pain, constipation, muscle pain, weakness
Rare but Serious: Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), liver problems, severe fatigue, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin/eyes

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe muscle pain, unexplained weakness, or signs of liver issues.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Not recommended for people with active liver disease.

  • Avoid alcohol, as it increases the risk of liver damage.

  • Use with caution if you have kidney problems.

Contact your doctor immediately if you notice:

  • Severe muscle pain or weakness

  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

  • Dark-colored urine

  • Unexplained fatigue or fever

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?

  • Certain antifungal medicines (ketoconazole, itraconazole)

  • Antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin)

  • Other lipid-lowering drugs (gemfibrozil, niacin in high doses)
