Atarax 25mg – Hydroxyzine Tablets
WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?
Atarax 25mg is used to treat anxiety, tension, allergic conditions (such as itching, hives, and dermatitis), and is also prescribed as a sedative before surgeries. It may also help manage nausea, vomiting, and insomnia related to anxiety.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Atarax contains Hydroxyzine, a first-generation antihistamine with anxiolytic and sedative effects. It blocks histamine H1 receptors and acts on the central nervous system to promote relaxation, reduce allergic symptoms, and induce calmness.
HOW TO USE?
Take Atarax 25mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor—typically 1 to 3 times daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
SIDE EFFECTS
Common: Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, headache
Less common: Nausea, blurred vision, constipation
Serious (rare): Allergic reaction, tremors, irregular heartbeat
Contact your doctor if side effects persist or worsen.
WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double up to compensate.
PRECAUTIONS
-
Use with caution in elderly patients and those with heart, kidney, or liver conditions
-
Avoid activities requiring mental alertness (e.g., driving)
-
Not advised for long-term use without medical supervision
WHEN DO I NEED TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP?
Seek immediate help if you experience:
-
Severe drowsiness or confusion
-
Swelling of face, lips, tongue (possible allergic reaction)
-
Breathing difficulty or irregular heartbeat
CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?
Inform your doctor if you're taking:
-
CNS depressants, alcohol, or other antihistamines
-
Antidepressants or muscle relaxants
-
May increase sedation and risk of side effects
FOOD RESTRICTIONS
No major food restrictions, but avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice, which may enhance sedative effects.
HOW TO STORE?
Store at 15–30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
