Atarax 10mg – Hydroxyzine Tablets

WHAT IS THIS MEDICATION FOR?
Atarax 10mg is prescribed for the treatment of anxiety, tension, allergic skin conditions like urticaria, itching, and as a pre-operative sedative. It also helps relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies and insomnia in some cases.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Atarax contains Hydroxyzine, an antihistamine with anxiolytic and sedative properties. It blocks histamine receptors, reducing allergy symptoms, and works on the brain to relieve anxiety and promote calmness.

HOW TO USE?
Take Atarax 10mg as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 4 times a day, depending on the condition. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food. Do not exceed the prescribed dose.

SIDE EFFECTS
Common: Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision
Less common: Headache, confusion, stomach upset
Severe (rare): Allergic reactions, tremors, irregular heartbeat
Inform your doctor if side effects persist or worsen.

WHAT TO DO IF I MISS A DOSE?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s close to your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose.

PRECAUTIONS

• Use with caution in elderly, and those with liver, kidney, or heart conditions

• Avoid alcohol and driving or operating machinery due to drowsiness

• Not recommended for long-term use unless prescribed

Seek immediate help if you experience:

• Difficulty breathing, severe drowsiness, or hallucinations

• Swelling of face, lips, or throat (signs of allergy)

• Irregular heartbeat or chest discomfort

CAN I TAKE IT WITH OTHER MEDICINES?
Consult your doctor if you are using:

• Other sedatives, antihistamines, or antidepressants

• Anticholinergic medications

• Medicines that affect the central nervous system
  Drug interactions may enhance side effects like drowsiness.

FOOD RESTRICTIONS
No specific food restrictions. However, avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice as they may increase sedative effects.

HOW TO STORE?
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

PREGNANCY CATEGORY
Category C – Use only if clearly needed and prescribed. Not recommended during the first trimester.
